清末，醴陵首创釉下五彩瓷。陶瓷界由此掀起了一场“美学风暴”。

In the late Qing Dynasty, Liling first created the “Five Colors under Glaze” porcelain. Following was an “Aesthetic Storm” sweeping the ceramic industry.

初时，五彩瓷以蓝、绿、赭、艳墨和玛瑙红等五色“独步天下”。后通过颜色互配，五色逐渐衍生，直至今日，釉下五彩瓷的用色已达到随心所欲的地步，画布上能呈现的，瓷上都可展现。

At first, the porcelain showed its unrivaled beauty with colors of blue, green, reddish brown, bright black and agate red. Later, by combining these five colors, more colors were generated. Today, porcelains can be decorated with so many colors that as long as the color can be seen on the canvas, it can be presented on the porcelain.

和一般制瓷技艺不同，釉下五彩瓷是将纹饰用高温颜料装饰泥胚上，覆盖透明釉，经1370℃±50℃的高温烧制而成。其瓷白如玉、明如镜、薄如纸、声如磬，无铅毒，耐酸碱磨损，且永不褪色。

Boasting a unique technology, the “Five Colors under Glaze” porcelain is produced by drawing the decoration with high-temperature resistant pigments, glazing the painting on the clay body again, and then firing at the temperature of between 1320℃ to 1420℃. Porcelains produced in this way can be white as jade, bright as mirror, thin as paper, and sound like chime stones. What’s more, they are lead-free, acid-alkali and wear-resistant, and the colors never fade.

然而，醴陵陶瓷的高光时刻远不止如此。为助力传统陶瓷产业转型升级，醴陵聚焦“先进陶瓷”发展。这类材料具备光电、声学、磁性、透光等特殊性能，被广泛应用于半导体、医疗器械、航天航空等领域。例如，眼前这一根根“身形高大”且满布棕色釉的“大家伙”，它们是产自醴陵的“空心瓷绝缘子”，属于先进陶瓷的一种，在输变电线路上，承担着绝缘和支撑功能，关乎整个电网的安全。

Nevertheless, the highlights of Liling ceramics are far from this. To promote the transformation and upgrade of the traditional ceramic industry, Liling turns its focus on “advanced ceramics” that have specific properties in optoelectronics, acoustics, magnetism, and light transmission. These ceramics are widely applied in many fields, such as semiconductor, medical devices, and aerospace, etc. For example, look at these tall “big guys” who wear brown glaze from head to foot. They are “Hollow Porcelain Insulators” from Liling made from advanced ceramics which assume responsibility for insulation and support on the transmission lines and the safety of the entire grid.

醴陵陶瓷产业发展至今，已形成集原料、装备、制造、物流于一体的完整产业链。当地陶瓷产业上下游相关企业1500余家，从业人员近20万人。2022年，规模陶瓷企业产值405.8亿，年出口约30.7亿元。立足打造国家级千亿陶瓷产业集群，醴陵正朝全国陶瓷产业可持续高质量发展标杆铿锵迈进。

Today, the ceramic industry of Liling has been equipped with raw materials, equipment, manufacturing, and logistics, all in one complete industrial chain. The number of local upstream and downstream enterprises of this industry exceeds 1500 with employees reaching nearly 200,000. In 2022, the output value of related enterprises above designated scale amounted to 40.58 billion yuan, and the annual exports reached about 3.07 billion yuan. To realize a national-hundred-billion-level ceramic industrial cluster, Liling is marching forward to the sustainable and high-quality development of the ceramic industry.
